We need volunteers this July and August from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. REACH is hosting a Community Kitchen Training session on June 16th.
Community kitchens are a great way to bring together community members, address issues of food security, and educate people about healthy, affordable and simple cooking while having lots of fun!

Litter-Less Lunches 2015

It's time once again for Nutrition Month. To celebrate this year, The Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region (RQHR) and REACH are inviting schools and before and after school programs to hold a "Litter-less Lunch and Snack Day" education initiative. Litter-less lunches and snacks are not only environmentally friendly but they are often healthier and lower in cost too!
When
Anytime in March
Why
To engage children in packing healthy lunches and snacks through the promotion of litter-less lunches and snacks. It also intends to help families create strategies to pack a variety of healthy foods.
What
- Have students compare the garbage created on a typical day with a day of "Litter-less Lunches or Snacks"
- Share your learning on the REACH and RQHR Facebook pages
- Enter your class for a "Make Your Own" Pizza Party sponsored by REACH
How
- Designate one day in March for children to bring a "Litter-less Lunch or Snack"

1. Take a "before" photo of the waste collected to represent the amount of waste produced on an average day. (Tip: don't let the students know about your planned litter-less day prior to taking the before photo.)
2. Promote litter-less lunches and snacks to children and parents.
- Hold a brainstorming session with children on ways to pack healthy "Litter-less Lunches or Snacks". Record brainstorming ideas. Information and education activities are attached in the "Educator's Package" to help with this.
- Send Parent/Caregiver letter and package home. Please add the date of your "Litter-less Lunch or Snack" to the parent letter.
3. Take an "after" photo of the waste produced the day of your "Litter-less Lunch or Snack". Submit the photos and ideas generated from the brainstorming session to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (Deadline: March 27).
- Entries will be shared on the RQHR and REACH Facebook pages and entered for prizes. Grand prize is a "Make Your Own Pizza Party" for a classroom. Food and staff person from REACH will be provided to hold the pizza party.
